How You Can Help Prevent Car Insurance Fraud
Car insurance fraud is a serious crime, and one that costs you money - an estimated $18 billion
a year in total, or about $200 a year out of your own pocket. Help combat fraud by looking
for these clues should you ever have an accident:
- The other driver admits fault and has a passenger or several passengers.
- The other vehicle cut in front of yours for no reason and then immediately slammed on the brakes.
- The other driver waved you on at a four-way stop sign - and then turned into the intersection anyway.
- The other driver, travelling in the opposite direction, waved you on to turn left at an intersection, and then proceeded into the intersection anyway.
- The other driver seems unusually familiar with insurance terms.
- The other driver or passengers complain of pain even though the impact was very slight.
- The other driver or passengers threaten to see a physician or attorney if the claim is not settled immediately.
- It appears that individuals are alleging to have been passengers you did not notice during or immediately after the accident.
- The other driver points out damage that looks old and unrelated to the accident.
